DIY Backyard Pallet Couch

DIY Backyard Pallet Couch

  • Grinder
  • Circular saw
  • Hand saw
  • Screw gun
  • Hammer
  • Pry bar

STEP 1: Choose your pillows and cushion

My first step was finding the pillows and couch cushion that I wanted to use. By purchasing the cushion’s first I was able to cut the pallets to match. I purchased a 48in cushion that fit the 48in x 48in pallets I used perfectly! I then used 2- 24in x 24in pillows for the back of the couch. (The links to what I purchased are above) Be sure these cushions are all outdoor friendly!

STEP 2: Gather all of your tools and materials!

Cut your bottom pallet first. I cut the bottom pallet to 24 inches, leaving 2 extra inches for the back rest (pallet) to sit on. By doing this it will make it easier to screw the back rest to the other pallets. (Step 6)

HINT: Use your pry bar and hammer to pull off a few planks, this will give you room for the circular saw.

STEP 4: Next, cut the other 2 pallets. I cut them down to 22in, leaving a few inches past the cushion for the pillows to sit.

STEP 5: Now, use your screw gun to secure the 3 pallets together. Be sure all edges match up evenly before screwing them together. Drill a pilot hole to put the screws in at an angle if the boards are not matching up. Don’t be shy, use plenty of screws to keep the pallets secure!

STEP 6: Once you have your bottom stack together, take the 4th pallet and cut it to the size you want for the back rest. I cut this pallet down to 20 inches, which (luckily) happened to be where the center board sat.

STEP 7: Place the back rest on the extra portion of the bottom pallet to pull it off the ground and screw it all together!

STEP 8: Use the sand paper to sand down the rough areas.

OPTIONAL: You can also paint the pallets to a color of your choice, I chose to leave them unfinished!

STEP 9: Place your cushions onto the couch and enjoy!

These couches look amazing around a fire pit to enjoy with the whole family! More D.I.Y. posts will be coming soon and be sure to check out 10 Things To Know For Your Remodel

    1. That’s a great question! I just looked and I definitely think you could fit shoes in the front slots. As long as they aren’t too tall! Hope your project turns out great!
